DROP TEST SODIUM NITRITE (1 drop = 25 ppm)
COMPONENTS: 1 x 4026 Dipper, 2 g, plastic 1 x 4086 Stirring Rod, 5", plastic 1 x 5044 Instruction 1 x 9010 Pipet, Calibrated 0.5 & 1.0 mL, plastic w/red cap 1 x 9198R Sample Tube, Graduated, 25 mL, plastic w/cap and red dot 1 x R-0742-C Permanganate Reagent, 2 oz 1 x R-0781-II Acid Sulfate, 50 g.
1. Rinse and fill 25 mL sample tube (#9198R) to 25 mL mark with water to be tested.
2. Using a 2 g dipper (#4026), add 1 dipper R-0781 Acid Sulfate. Stir with rod (#4086) to dissolve.
3. Using a 1.0 mL pipet (#9010), add R-0742 Permanganate Reagent dropwise, swirling and counting after each drop, until color changes from colorless to a faint but permanent pink, which persists for at least one minute. Always hold pipet in vertical position.
4. Multiply drops of R-0742 Permanganate Reagent by 25. Record as parts per million (ppm) sodium nitrite.
NOTE: For results as nitrite, multiply sodium nitrite concentration by 0.67.
