The LECO LM 100 is an economical model within the LECO LM series of microindentation hardness testing systems, designed for low-volume laboratory applications such as testing hardness of surface layers, coatings, and thin specimens.
The LECO LM 100 series offers precise microindentation testing with a straightforward, user-friendly operation.
- Measuring Method: Utilizes an indenter to measure material hardness, reporting values typically in Vickers hardness (HV). It can be converted to other standard hardness values like Rockwell.
- Load Ranges: Test loads range from 1 gf to 2000 gf (gram-force), allowing for analysis of a variety of materials from very soft to ultra-hard.
- Turret Configuration: The system includes a turret that can accommodate a variety of objectives (from 2.5X to 100X) and up to two indenters.
- Indenter Support: Features dual leaf-spring indenter supports to ensure centered indentations, which improves accuracy and repeatability.
- Measurement: The system uses precision photo-etched measuring lines for manual measurement via an analog or digital ocular.
- Expandability: The LM 100 can be upgraded with accessories such as a video measuring system or an automatic stage for enhanced functionality.

Operation is straightforward, often involving a simple control panel. After focusing the image of the sample with an objective (e.g., 50X), the operator selects the desired test force using a dial and presses a start button to automatically perform the indentation. The resulting indentation is then measured using the measuring lines in the ocular to determine the hardness value.
